Dr Apostolos Malatras

Head of Unit Market, Technology and Product Security/ Head of Unit Cybersecurity Certification, ENISA

Dr Apostolos Malatras is the Head of Unit for Market, Technology and Product Security, as well as the Head of Unit for Cybersecurity Certification at the EU Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA). Previously, he served as Team Leader for the Knowledge and Information Team and for Research & Innovation, leading work in emerging technologies cybersecurity, cyber threat landscapes, and strategic foresight.

With over 20 years of experience spanning industry, academia, and the European Commission, Dr Malatras has contributed to and led numerous ENISA initiatives, including in Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Industry 4.0, and Smart Mobility. His expertise covers the security of complex network infrastructures, connected systems, and intelligent devices. He has authored or co-authored more than 60 research papers and scientific reports and is a frequent speaker at international fora.

At this year’s conference, Dr Malatras will participate in a fireside chat titled “The Evolution of Cybersecurity Standards in Europe: Product Security, Trust Frameworks & Market Readiness.”

During the discussion, he will explore how EU cybersecurity standards and certification schemes (such as EUCS, EUCC, and 5G) are shaping a more trustworthy digital market, the maturity of product security requirements, and the challenges introduced by emerging technologies. The session will highlight how secure-by-design principles and trust-building mechanisms can accelerate Europe’s readiness for resilient and secure digital products and services — offering participants a forward-looking perspective on the future of cybersecurity assurance in Europe.
